Sapphire is the birthstone of September and is one of the four most precious stones. It is thought to promote healing, clarity, attract prosperity and also represents fidelity and love. Historically, blue sapphires were considered to be holy by the catholic church, as it symbolised heavens and innocence.

Sapphires can be found in a variety of colours and are the most versatile of gems. A sapphire has a triangular crystal structure consisting of aluminium oxide otherwise known as a corundum.

The sapphire is often worn for special occasions and is the stone of the 45th wedding anniversary. A popular gem of choice for royalty, kings originally wore sapphire to protect from harm and envy.  The late Princess Diana had a sapphire engagement ring, which was passed down to the Duchess of Cambridge.

The solidity of a sapphire makes it a great choice for jewellery, as it is easy to maintain. For instance, it can be cleaned with warm, soft soapy water. Although try not to do too much manual work as it is at its best whilst admired at leisure. Above all the sapphire looks captivating and alluring and is a gem that is sought after.
